Let Experience Guide You
Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) is a lifeline provided by the VA to support families coping with the loss of a veteran. Let's break it down and explore how you or your loved ones could benefit, backed by official information from VA.gov.
DIC is a financial benefit available to eligible survivors of deceased veterans. If a veteran passed away due to military service or a service-related injury, their spouse, children, or parents may qualify for this support.
If you're the spouse, child, or parent of a veteran who died due to military service or a service-related disability, you might be eligible for DIC benefits.
Collect essential documents such as the veteran's death certificate and your relationship proof paperwork such as marriage certificate. Complete VA Form 21-534EZ (for spouses, children, or surviving parents). Send the forms and documents to the VA regional office.

A surviving spouse without dependent children can receive around $1,612 per month from DIC. This amount may increase if there are dependent children. Each dependent child may receive approximately $399 per month from DIC.

+ $399.54 (Aid and Attendance)
+ $342.00 (transitional benefit for the first 2 years after the Veteran’s death)

Total monthly payment after 2 years (when transitional benefit ends)
$3,495.83 (monthly payment with transitional benefit)
